The Winter/Spring season in Puerto Vallarta reaches its annual apex during the month of February with a huge variety of entertainment options for those looking for memorable nights out with friends old and new. For those of us who live here year-round, it is easy to take for granted the fact that when it comes to live acts—from cabaret performances to drag shows to stage plays in English—Puerto Vallarta has no match in all of Mexico. It is also easy to take for granted that just because you are visiting from north of the border—be it the US or Canada—you have access to such a variety of entertainment back home. And this is part of what makes Puerto Vallarta special!

What can you expect? February brings to Puerto Vallarta the likes of Branden & James, a cello/vocal duo, that have shared the stage with legends such as Sarah Maclachlan, Rita Moreno, Sally Struthers and Loretta Divine. They recently debuted at Feinstein’s/54 Below in New York City to critical acclaim. Presenting her latest show, “A Star is Bored,” Varla Jean Merman is a character originated and portrayed by Jeffery Roberson, an American actor, singer and drag performer. She is perhaps best known for her role in the 2003 independent film Girls Will Be Girls.

The sexy Steve Grand will also perform in Puerto Vallarta this month. He is an American singer, songwriter and model from a Chicago suburb who became an overnight internet celebrity when the music video of his first hit “All-American Boy” went viral on YouTube in less than a week in July 2013. A Provincetown, MA regular, Zöe Lewis returns to Puerto Vallarta for another series of one-of-a-kind performances. Billed as ‘A band in a body’, she plays jazz, jump jive, Latin grooves, swing, international folk, and funk originals on everything from the piano to the spoons and she has toured with Judy Collins, Pat Benatar, and The Indigo Girls.

Other acts in town during the month include dance recording artist Debby Holiday, who’s hit the Billboard charts several times since 2004. She continues to pump up the volume on dance floors worldwide and live with her rock/soul band. And if you’d like a taste of local talent there are just as many acts scheduled to appear while you are here. There are many venues that you’ll want to consider, and the weekly offerings are published in The PV Mirror, a local weekly. It comes out every Friday and is distributed for free at many points throughout the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood. And visit GEDLATINO.com for more features, and all the bar listings in the PV BarTab.

Happy travels!
