Directed by Rob Letterman, the first ever live action adaptation of the Pokémon franchise is finally here and what did I think of it? This movie is pure magic and charm. It’s super effective!

The main star of this movie is Ryan Reynolds as the voice Detective Pikachu who was absolutely perfect and totally adorable alongside Justice Smith who plays Tim Goodman. Together Tim and Pikachu set to solve the mystery of the suspicious death of Tim’s father and Pikachu’s lost memories. Along with the adventures Tim meets a young reporter name Lucy Stevens played by Kathryn Newton and her Pokémon partner Psyduck who is also looking into Harry’s death.

The movie takes place in Ryme City, a metropolis that outlaws Pokémon fighting and pushes the bonds of humans and Pokémon alike. Seeing all the Pokémon living in the city is just so cool to see, makes me wish I lived there in real life with my very own Pokémon partner.

The movie is great if you’re a fan, but if you’re not familiar with the franchise, some of it will probably go over your head. For video game-based movies, which are notoriously awful, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is a breath of fresh air. Even in a PG-13 movie Ryan Reynolds is still absolutely hilarious. His version of Pikachu is totally worth check out and OMG Psyduck is to funny!
