After a race of creatures called “Disas” begin to attack earth, spirits from another world join forces to help create magical girls who will fight in the war against the Diasas. The manga was originally illustrated by Seigo Tokiya and written by Makoto Fukami, with Naoya Tamura working as the series’ military advisor for both the manga and anime. The show follows Asuka Otori, a former magical girl who lost her family in the war, and is trying to have a normal life. While her former teammates Kurumi Mugen, Mia Cyrus, Tamara Volkova, and Lau Peipei, have all gone back to their respective countries and are still fighting the Disas. Things are going great until a group of terrorists almost kills one of Asuka’s friends, when she once again becomes Magical Girl Rapture Asuka. From here the show gets good and gory, with the Disas being brought back along with new illegal magical girls, and the body count begins to rise. To their delight, the squad is brought back together to fight this new evil. The entire first season can be watched dubbed on Funimation or with subtitles on Crunchyroll.
