I got a chance to sit down with Kim Stanwood Terranova, ALSP one of our contributing writers for the past five years.
Kim shared the importance of setting intentions and acknowledging what you are grateful for. We talked about a tradition she created decades ago setting clear “intentions” and acknowledging “gratefulness.” She shared how in the new year it’s important to set clear intentions and how important intentions are and the impact they create.
Kim: Creating clear intentions is one of the most important and valuable teachings in personal growth and fulfilment. The power that comes from consciously choosing a life of clear intention, is the path to creating our destiny and achieving all of our dreams and desires. As we are all co-creators, it is imperative that we stay conscious in all that we are creating. Intentions assist in doing just that. They keep you present in what you wish to experience and away from what you don’t. Remember Thoughts are Things!
Eric: What is an Intention?
Kim: An intention is a manifestation, an aim, a plan, an energetic lasered statement of your desire that you wish to fulfill. Intentions direct the action of your life. You want to base intentions on qualities of experiences and always state in the positive and present tense. Intentions lift us, they keep us focused, they keep us awake and aware in determining all that we want to manifest. Intentions create your life. For example:
My intention is to release judgement today and allow forgiveness to lead the way.
My intention is to express myself in a calm and kind manner, even when it may be difficult.
My intention is to make decisions in my life based on integrity and honesty.

Eric: Why is gratitude so important?

Kim: Gratitude is important because how can we be ready to receive more goodness when we are not aware and grateful for what we already have and accomplished. I have an annual tradition to sit down on New Year’s Day and list 100 things to be grateful for. So, grab your journal or a piece of paper and sit down and write 100 things you are grateful for! Think about the massive things, as well as those small precious moments of joy that made your heart expand, consider them all! When we live in gratitude, we are preparing the way for more joy, more success, more love and more overflow of all we desire. So, in accepting an expansive and joyously abundant 2019, let’s take a moment and honor the journey we have been upon!
Each New Year we have the opportunity to start fresh and begin a new year with a new set of eyes. We have the option to stay in the view of the past, or to pull ourselves into this moment and begin “new” with a fresh perspective. I invite you to do just that! Imagine beginning 2019 with an open heart of unlimited possibilities and endless joy filled abundance. Imagine it and it can occur.
Life is an adventure and we have the opportunity to be clear about the direction for our adventure this coming year. Think for a moment of all you wish to achieve and experience in this next year. It is necessary to first begin in a reflection of the past year, and then be willing to re-evaluate and recalibrate where you are so you can begin again. Review the journey you have been upon this past year, and choose to find the pearls that were cultivated upon the path. Look back to those times of 2018 where the bumps of the road created the space for you to grow (or may have forced you to grow) and to be more fully you. Those challenges were your opportunities for big change – to stretch yourself, possibly past what you knew yourself to be. You are not the same as you were a year ago and you will not be the same a year from now. Your expansion is in proportion to how you view the challenges and the joys. Consider this – each challenge, each bump, gave you the opportunity to be more fully alive and to apply yourself boldly and shift and grow. It is now time to lovingly release the past and prepare for the future. The gift is to take the pearls of wisdom gained from 2018, and apply them to your aim for 2019.
