Hemp is one of the oldest plants known to man. It is incredibly adaptable and has assumed an essential job for centuries. Hemp has been commonly utilized for paper, building material, and cordage. Some believe, hemp has been the impetus for man’s most useful developments. There is even archeological proof that the most established relic of human industry is a piece of hemp texture going back to around 8,000 BC.

The facts confirm that Marijuana and hemp seeds begin from cannabis plant, yet hemp and marijuana are not the equivalent. Horticultural hemp contains no Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive chemical in cannabis. Although Cannabidiol (CBD) can be found in hemp, there is a fairly lengthy process required to extract the oil which have various medical advantages.
To be classified as hemp, a Cannabis sativa plant must contain less than 0.3 percent THC. There are numerous varietals of Cannabis sativa, all of which have diverse measures of THC and CBD. Cannabis sativa varietals that have more than 0.3 percent THC are generally classified as marijuana.

Hemp seeds contain peptides that act an ACE-inhibitor, very similar to those prescribed to treat hypertension. Further research shows that another chemical found in hemp known as Lignanamides may promote brain health by inhibiting the breakdown of the compound Acetylcholine (neurotransmitter in the nervous system).

The seeds of hemp are amazingly nutritious. They contain significant amounts of vitamins A, B, D, and E, as well as various minerals, and proteins. Hemp seeds also contain oil that is high in unsaturated fats, including an ideal 1:4 proportion of omega-3 to 6. Hemp oil can be used orally, topically, or smoked by means of vaporization.

It was recently brought to my attention that “milk” can also be produced using hemp seeds; while raw hemp leaves make a wonderful addition to mixed green salads. Yes, you read that correctly…hemp leaves can be eaten raw, or finely ground and then dried into a powder.

It is no secret that hemp is an amazing plant, and is becoming increasingly recognized for its uses and antibacterial and antimicrobial benefits. Most notably, researchers found that infusions of hemp and manufactured THC has eliminated brain tumors in 33% of the treated rodents, and prolonged the lives of another third. Study results also showed that the THC slowed the development of lung disease, malignant breast tumors, and leukemia. These studies and findings are just the tip of the iceberg as it pertains to hemp and medicine. Only time will tell how far the hemp plant will take us. What I know for sure, discovery is journey and the marathon continues.

So until next time, take care of yourselves and stay irie, friends.
