Yes, it’s the heart of the Silicon Valley, but San Jose has a lot to offer visitors in addition to gawking at Tech Millionaires in their Teslas.

San Jose is one of California’s oldest cities with a rich history. Did you know back in 1850 it was the state’s first capital? Now it’s the largest city in Northern California with just over a million residents and an international reputation for tech innovation. With its thriving downtown, Victorian era homes, nearly perfect year-round climate, and a wildly diverse population, it makes a stimulating getaway destination!

With so many national and international business travelers visiting Monday through Thursday, there’s a slew of high-end hotels in San Jose. A little-known secret is that the many of its luxury and historic hotels are often half-price Friday through Sunday.

Stroll The Alameda. Once part of El Camino Real which connected the California Missions, The Alameda is now a beautiful tree lined street dotted with historic buildings, shops and restaurants. Stop by Greenlee’s Bakery for their famous cinnamon bread, or the gay-friendly Crema coffee for a latte and a perfect people-watching patio. You’ll find local winery tasting rooms and a bevy of charming eateries like Zona Rosa with its signature bacon pistachio guacamole. Ole! The Alameda is also the home of the Billy DeFrank LBGTQ+ Community Center, the resort-like Watergarden Men’s Club & Baths, and our favorite men’s underwear and swimwear shop, A lot MooRe.
