If any of you know me, you know that I am that crazy Christmas lady. I LOVE all things that include the UNABBASHED JOY of the Holiday Season. My ringtone on my phone is “Holly Jolly Christmas” and yes, it’s that song 365 days a year. I also have a tree up all year, a tradition I started during the pandemic, which I change out for specific holidays. I am THAT person who is first in line at Starbucks for a peppermint mocha, has my house decorated the day after Halloween, and I even have a “JOY” tattoo with vintage C-9 bulb on my left arm. SHE IS CHRISTMAS – CLEARLY.

Even though I am not a religious person, more spiritual, I have decided this year to use the phrase “Happy Holidays!” There are so many different faiths and celebrations that take place this time of year, I want to let people know that I celebrate whatever it is that they choose to celebrate. Some may say it is a WAR ON CHRISTMAS, but I say it’s just being kind. #youdoyouboo

My family is the reason I love the holidays so much. I have the absolute BEST memories from growing up which included the ritual of going to the tree farm to cut down the perfect tree, the wrapping of packages that my grandmother taught me how to do, and that fun yearly polaroid taken on Santa’s lap. This will be my first Christmas without my family, as they have all moved on to the glorious heavens above, but I choose to celebrate it even more so, because every little thing I do reminds me of them.

Now, I must mention that my family LOVED to shop. Honey, those Black Friday Sales and Day After Christmas bargains were swooped up by the carload! I remember coming home with Mom and Granny, barely even able to fit in the back seat. We would come home to Papa, standing in the driveway with hands on hip stating “Well, I see you made a day of it!” Trust me when I tell you Santa always stopped at our house on Christmas Eve.

Due to COVID-19, everything seems to be floating on a barge with no one to get it on a truck and into the stores, which is fine with me. As I get older, I have realized that the joy of giving gifts has lost its sparkle, and I’m more about making memories and choosing fun experiences instead. I found a list courtesy of “BecomingMinimalist” with some great ideas for clutter-free gifts this year. They include an assortment of experiences, classes, time, memberships, and consumables. Anyone can give a gift card but choosing to give something off this list will most likely create a memory that can be cherished for a lifetime.

If you want to shop for gifts, please shop local this year. Many of the small businesses have been hit hard during the pandemic and why not help lift them up with a purchase which will help keep the doors open? Amazon is our friend, but they are doing just fine at the bank.

I’ll be joining friends at Amusement Parks, hosting intimate parties, spending time with Bob Mackie, and enjoying some holiday magic in Las Vegas, just to name a few of my favorite things.

I sure hope you’ll join me for “A Very Ethyl Christmas” which returns to Palm Springs on December 11th, 2021, at “Ethyl’s Place” located inside of Wilma & Frieda’s Palm Springs. This show is sure to bring on ALL the CHEER you need and it is also my only appearance for the season. For tickets and information, please email levi@wilmafrieda.com

However, you choose to celebrate the season, I hope you do it BIG and that it’s filled with lot’s of love and laughter. Both of those things are the best gifts anyone can give or receive.

Joyfully,

Ethyl
