California RV Adventure

Thinking about a vacation? Looking to visit several cities but with hotels, airfare and all the extras it adds up to be too much? Have you ever thought of renting an RV and hitting the road? Recently I set out with a friend and his family on a great Californian RV adventure.

As I am based in Las Vegas we set out on the road from Sin City, but this adventure can start from San Diego or LA and be a perfect fit.

Get on the road and head first to Sequoia National Park. Get up close and personal with some of the largest trees in the world. You will be mesmerized by their majestic beauty and size. Get out for a hike and enjoy one of the many campsites that have RV hookups along the park. (Recommendation: 1 night/2days at this park.)

Next up it’s time to visit the famous Yosemite National Park. Head north from Sequoia Park and venture further north. When it comes to Yosemite there is so much to see. We decided to stop at Yosemite Falls, the tallest water fall in the park and certainly the most breathtaking. There are many hiking trails to explore, so take time to unplug from your phone and life and simply enjoy the beauty of nature. Just a day here will have you feeling rejuvenated. (Recommendation: 2 nights/3 days at this park.)

We left Yosemite and headed north to the city by the bay, San Francisco. (We will save that however until the October issue with a full travel guide to SF.)

Sacramento was next on our trip, we drove through the California state Capitol on our way to Lake Tahoe. Taking a few hours to explore Capitol Park and the downtown area. Photo tip: stop by the Capitol building for a selfie and get creative. Never give “boring selfie” – see my example of crushing the building. I always try to think outside the box when it comes to travel photos. Have fun and give your friends something to like on social media.

Lake Tahoe was our final stop on the adventure. We stayed at Camp Richards RV Park for two nights. Camp Richards in South Lake Tahoe is a historic retreat on the California side of the lake. There’s lots to do for a small town retreat. We tried out the paddle boarding, paddle boat and bike riding trails. The RV park is nestled in wooded areas with great views. If you like coffee (and if you don’t, what’s wrong with you?) you should try out the coffee house. Their fresh baked breads pair perfectly with their mochas and lattes. The general store sells the best hot dogs I’ve ever had. We bought a package and cooked them over an open fire at night. Even if you think hot dogs aren’t great, you’ll be happy you tried these ones.

Two days wasn’t enough in Lake Tahoe, I’ll definitely go back there. And with great ski resorts you can visit Tahoe year round and explore many different types of activities.

The trip was a success! We visited many cities and didn’t have the expense of airplanes and hotels in each city. RV rental websites like RVShare.com are great ways to rent an RV directly from an owner at a great price.

The moral of this story is never think travel has to be expensive or out of your reach. There are always ways to explore and see many places on a budget. Renting an RV and going out on the road is one of those ways to travel and save.
