Part soul crooner, part pop star with an ever-morphing, chameleon-like quality, Sam coasts a fine line between disarmingly earnest and chic, credible cool.  He has become known not only for his distinct, scale-defying vocals and epic live shows, but also as a visual artist and style icon, inspired as much by Jean-Paul Goode and Andy Warhol as he is by Prince and James Murphy.

Born in Australia, Sam and his family relocated  to Los Angeles in 1993. He became entrenched in music, spending every free moment playing his keyboard, programming beats, and singing with his church choir, led by the McCrary Sisters (who sang with musical legends- Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Chaka Khan).  His musical taste and knowledge stretches far and wide – from soul classics and pop obscurities to dance floor staples and mainstream delights. With bits of time back in Australia and London, Sam later returned to Los Angeles and soon after scored a record deal with Island Records. In 2008 he hit the mark with his career changing single Black & Gold – which was labelled “unquestionably, the single of the year!” (BBC.co.uk), “the years most enduring disco staple” (Q) and “a slick electro-soul masterpiece” (Guardian). With critical acclaim, the single went to No.2 in the UK, No.4 in Australia and top 20 in 14 countries. His live performances found him touring with the likes of Adele and Robyn, eventually headlining his own tour and playing festivals around the world including Glastonbury and Coachella.

After the Grammy nominated “Black and Gold” and his self titled debut album. The critically acclaimed follow-up Return To Paradise produced another international chart topping single “Happiness”. In October 2013, Sparro’s EP, Quantum Physical, was released. Sam later released his Quantum Physical 2 EP  in 2015, and is now releasing his follow up to that – Quantum Physical 3: Conspiracy.
sparro-coverart“Pharma Karma” released on Intuit Records: Soundcloud Listener. In a nod to Prince’s “Sign of the Times” and Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”, Sparro asks if prescription drug peddling is “really so different than selling crack out on the corner?” Lo-fi beats, fuzzy guitars and erie choir vocals underscore this scathing opus about the “War on Drugs”. The track features fellow Australian soul crooner Daniel Merriweather and Maryland born MC Emoni Fela who raps “our answer’s always prison, instead of healing … we need that feeling”. Sam Sparro’s latest work, Quantum Physical 3: Conspiracyis the final installment in his self-produced EP series and due to hit retail on August 19 worldwide. PRE-ORDER HERE. This collection of songs about gun control, global surveillance, and social politics are presented in a moody soundscape of dark Pop, RnB, and Hip Hop – woven together with news reel audio clips and cinematic voiceover.
His collaborations with the likes of Mark Ronson, Basement Jaxx, Adam Lambert, Aluna George and Kylie Minogue have further established him as one of the most exciting songwriters, producers and voices today.
