The Drag Race Finalist Performs LA, San Diego and San Francisco

By William Cooke

After selling out all of Europe on their WERQ THE WORLD TOUR, the queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race are unleashing their hilarity and hijinks in the USA this fall.   Produced by Voss Events in collaboration with VH1 and World of Wonder, the tour hits California with three shows: Thursday, October 12th at Spreckels Theater in San Diego, Friday, October  13th at Globe Theatre in Los Angeles, followed by the already sold-out Saturday, October 14th San Francisco show.

Shangela will host the San Diego and San Francisco shows and Michelle Visage will host Los Angeles.  Alyssa Edwards, Detox, Latrice Royale, Violet Chachki and season nine favorites Peppermint and Valentina will perform, with Kim Chi joining the queens in San Diego.

“It’s been a year since the last American tour, and these queens are coming with fierce new looks, never-before-seen theatrics and over the top production numbers that will leave fans gagging,” promises producer Brandon Voss.  “It will be especially interesting to witness how the season nine queens stack up against the veterans.  The show is a collaborative effort with all the queens coming together on some unbelievably creative numbers.”

We spoke with Peppermint to see how she planned to werq her first California shows.

peppermint-gedmag-0917-350Why was season 9 the best season yet?

Peppermint:  Season 9 had some of the most historic moments, extremely complex and difficult challenges, Emmy nominations and it is the highest-rated season to date, plus we had Lady Gaga. Boom!

What was the biggest lesson you learned from being on the show?

Peppermint:  How to apply white eyeliner and wear stone tights. Thanks Valentina.

Is there anything you wish you could do over?

Peppermint:  It’s a tossup between the naughty nighty and faux fur. I’d probably do Mr. T instead of NeNe Leakes.

Have things gotten easier for you after the show or does a queen still have to work hard to make a living?

Peppermint:  I think I work just as hard but I’m able to pay my bills now.

What inspired you to join the Werq The World tour?

Peppermint:  I wanted to perform alongside girls from other seasons. We had a great time on the European leg. I can’t wait to werq the USA!   This will be my first time touring America.

Are you friendly with queens from other seasons?

Peppermint:  Absolutely! I’ve met most of them and they are all fantastic. It’s great being a part of a huge sisterhood. I’ve got 113 sisters now!

Of all the queens from all the seasons, who, in your mind, reigns supreme?

Peppermint:  (Laughing) Me, of course.

Have you kept in touch with the Season 9 queens?

Peppermint: I’ve seen most of the girls since the finale.  Many of us talk every week online. Sasha and I are still pretty close. We’re working on a college speaking tour together.  I do miss my girls, though. Werq The World will be a great excuse to kiki together and act totally wild.

What’s the first thing you’ll say to judge-turned-host Michelle Visage when you see her?

Peppermint:  Hey, bitch, I brought you a pink skirt!

The San Francisco show is sold out but tickets for the Los Angeles and San Diego shows of RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE WERQ THE WORLD TOUR are still available and on sale now at www.werqtheworld.com.
