Mass Effect: Andromeda

By Steven H. Garcia

The Mass Effect Trilogy is one of the greatest trilogies in video game history. Now, Mass Effect is back and in an all new adventure. Leave the Milky Way Galaxy and travel to the all new Andromeda Galaxy to find a new home for humanity! You play as either one of the twins Scott or Sara Ryder, an inexperienced military recruit who joins the Initiative and wakes up in Andromeda following a 600-year journey. Ryder becomes the Pathfinder who is in charge of exploring new worlds and creating new colonies for humans and aliens to inhabit. You must find and unlock a remnant vault that helps to make to planets livable, which is no easy task. While exploring the worlds you must also face off against the evil alien race ‘The Kett’ which have been killing and enslaving people all over the Andromeda system.

The game is slow at the start, but it more interesting the more you play and unlock new worlds. The worlds are gorgeous and fun to explore, but the game really shines when it jumps into combat mode. All the tech and biotic powers are awesome to use in tandem. The new update patch resolves some animation problems.

Mortal Blitz VR

By Matthew Udy

Finally, a shooter that feels like I’m actually there!  Mortal Blitz brings me back to my childhood, playing Virtual Cop in the arcades. In this game you can shoot guns with either hand and also as dual weapons. There’s a special feature that allows you to telekinetically grab one of the enemies with a free hand.  This slows down time for you to shoot them and gain a large multiplier.

The game begins with a small training session that teaches you how to use the weapons and the telekinetic ability. You are then thrown immediately into a battle that is very fast paced and slightly stressful. I immediately realized I could duck behind cover and freely move about my room as long as I stayed within camera range.  Mortal Blitz gets a huge two thumbs up from me. I really do hope for many more games similar to this. Keep ‘em coming!
