The summer is here and it’s time for vacations. Didn’t plan? Think it’s too late to go on an amazing vacation? It’s not. Here are some of my favorite travel tips I’ve learned over the years.
Pick a type of destination instead of an exact destination. For example, you want to go to the Caribbean however flights are expensive and out of your price range. Pick the things you like about that destination. You want to go to a beach with great weather. Search for a beach getaway that’s closer to your home. Look up airline prices to several other beach cities. You’ll be surprised what you can find. From the west coast, Puerto Vallarta has really great prices during the summer. Also check out trips to San Diego, California, the city has great beaches and lots of activities to explore.
Hotels too expensive? Think outside the box when it comes to traveling. You don’t have to get a hotel room for your stay. Live an adventure and go camping in your destination. Search for hostels or room shares that may be available. Or visit websites like CouchSurfing.com where can meet other travelers around the world and stay at their houses, and get a local tour guide while on your trip.
Think eating on vacation has to be expensive? Think again. When visiting big cities, stay away from the tourist areas when going to eat. Don’t be afraid to venture out into the local areas. You will most likely find the mom and pops with tastier food and much better prices. With the rise of food trucks, you can always search those out as well. And get a feel for what the local flair has to offer. Look online. Many times I have bought tickets to museums and amusement parks online prior to going on vacation. Typically pre- purchased tickets will come with a discount. One of my favorite finds was while visiting Atlanta, Georgia. I wanted to go to the Georgia Aquarium, I found on their website a deeply discounted ticket by selecting the time of day I wanted to enter. Select your ticket and time of day and save big. So always look online. Even if you are already there, some museums will let you buy online while in line and still get the discount. Don’t be afraid to ask the cashier.
