It time again for the GLAAD Media Awards. This year’s 27th annual awards honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community. In addition to film and TV, GLAAD also recognizes “Outstanding Comic Book.” Here are this year’s five nominees.

Stolen from Thor’s Asgard, exiled from Heven, and robbed of Sera, Angela plunges into the depths of blackest Hel (Marvel’s version of the place with two Ls) to save her girlfriend…and once there, the lost princess of Asgard will carve out a realm of her very own.

harley-quinn-10-cover-amanda-conner-1400HARLEY QUINN (DC Comics) by Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Chad Hardin, John Timms, Jed Dougherty
While Harley Quinn was originally created for the Batman Animated Series, and is making her big screen debut in this year’s SUICIDE SQUAD, her comic book is one of the top selling books for DC Comics. This last summer it was officially revealed that, yes, Harley and Poison Ivy were more than just close friends.

Lumberjanes_v2_Cover1 LUMBERJANES (BOOM! Studios) by Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Watters, Kat Leyh, Carolyn Nowak, Brooke Allen

Nominated for the second year in a row this cute comic is about best friends spending the summer at Lumberjane scout camp fighting yetis, three-eyed wolves, and giant falcons While not outwardly gay labeling characters, LUMBERJANES is definitely queer. The young all-girl cast covers a wide range of ethnicities, and personalities. Pushing against gender norms while having cartoon-like adventures this book is fun for all.

midnighter MIDNIGHTER (DC Comics) by Steve Orlando, Aco, Hugh Petrus, Alec Morgan, Stephen Mooney

The openly gay and openly crude anti-hero Midnighter’s solo book is DC’s second nominee this year. From beating up homophobes, hooking up in bars, and checking out other hero’s asses Midnighter is an in-your-face action packed fun and funny adventure that regrets nothing.

thewickedthedivine_1_BTHE WICKED + THE DIVINE (Image Comics) by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Kate Brown, Tula Lotay

“Every ninety years, twelve gods incarnate as humans. They are loved. They are hated. In two years, they are dead.” In this world mega-pop stars are reincarnated gods returning to be worshiped. The characters are queer, gay, and gender fluid in this powerful ongoing series
