Thorgy Thor and the Ladies of RuPaul’s Drag Race Are “Christmas Queens”

By Tyler WhiteChristmas Queens

Thorgy Thor has long hoped that drag would take her “out of nightclubs and into theater.” She has her sites on performing Carnegie Hall, touring with a cabaret-style show, and conducting a full orchestra.

This month, her Christmas wish comes true!  She has joined the cast of her merry sisters from RuPaul’s Drag Race touring the country on the Christmas Queens tour.   Produced by Voss Events in collaboration with Producer Entertainment Group, the tour plays Los Angeles’ Ace Theatre on Friday, December 22 and San Francisco’s Mezzanine on Saturday, December 23.

Michelle Visage will host with performances by Manila Luzon, Ginger Minj, Jinkx Monsoon, Phi Phi O’Hara, Peppermint, Sharon Needles, Willam, Ivy Winters, and of course, the ever jolly Thorgy Thor.  She explains what she has in store for this year’s Christmas show.

We’re excited to welcome the Brooklyn queen to the west coast!

You should be.  I’m bringing Brooklyn in da house!  One thing is for sure, there is never a dull night in Brooklyn — you can always find a party to go to and a flock of freaks to stare at.

Is that what we should expect from the Christmas Queens show?

That and violin magic, incredible costumes and drag ridiculousness.

If viewers would like to bring you a Christmas present, what kind of gift would make you happy?

That’s easy:  magic mushrooms.

Have you ever had to fake being super happy to receive a certain Christmas gift when it was really not the gift you wanted?

Hasn’t everybody? As you might know, I have dreadlocks down to my ass. My sister has been on me to cut my hair off so last Christmas she bought me a salon certificate to pay a hairstylist to cut all my dreads off.

She did what?!

Yes, but don’t worry, I’m getting that bitch back this year.

It’s been two years since you taped your season of Drag Race. Looking back on it now, what is the most important thing you took away from it?

I’ve kept true to the Brooklyn artist I am.   I’ve kept my roots grounded in my hometown.

Why is that important?

As an artist, I think it’s important to understand that success comes in waves. One day you are on top of the world, the next day you’re brought down a few notches, then a week later, you’re on the rise again. You always gotta be ready for the floor to drop and pay it no mind.  Keep going. Keep creating. Throw your energy into preparing for the opportunity around the corner.

Like starring in a Christmas Queens show?

Exactly.  Back in July, who knew this queen would be starring in a Christmas show?

Is this the year you become the true Christmas Queen?

I’ll leave that title to Mariah Carey.  That’s her thing.

Does she deserve it?

She’s ok but my favorite Christmas album of all time is Barbara Streisand’s Christmas album.  It is magic all the way through.

What’s your advice to fans in the new year?

Just treat everyone you meet with respect, even if you don’t agree with them, because at the end of the day, we’re all in this together.   And with that in mind, before approaching me, please make sure you’re wearing deodorant and always keep mints in your pocket just in case, because if you’re in need of them, I will tell you.
